The Family Honor Tracing my way throughout Kansas City's history gave me a chill with every stone I turned over. The anticipation of the unknown fascinated me with every step. From the seediest of peep shows to the wonders of the speakeasies, and from the well-known restaurants that fed the most important, to the most magnificent of homes that housed the wealthiest. Kansas City has certainly intrigued the writer in me. One only has to look and listen, there is a story to be told! |

My Name is Katie Haynes. Coming from an abusive family has made me the strong woman that I am today.
We all deserve to be loved; no matter how badly you are abused, you deserve happiness. The most challenging part of an abusive relationship is breaking the cycle of abuse. Victims need to understand the longer they stay in an abusive relationship, the more violent it can become. To end the cycle of abuse means being aware of the warning signs and then safely addressing them.
Take action personally and act against domestic violence when someone is involved or abused. Encourage your neighborhood watch to watch out for domestic violence.

I'm super excited about my newest novel "THE LIKE" Some of us still believe in fairytales and happily ever after’s. So, I went into this new world of online dating myself to see what men were really looking for with online dating. To be quite honest what I found was not what I expected at all, the world has changed, and not for the better.
I found men who had no respect for women, and I found lots of men who only wanted sex and would tell you anything that you wanted to hear just to get that notch on their bedpost.
The list of men who were nothing more than players went on and on and it began to irritate me that most of my time was spent analyzing men for red flags.
Has the world really changed, and we just want sex after sex with just anyone, is that really what we have become?
I met some sweet lonely men who had lost the love of their lives and just wanted someone to talk to.
Then a man who was married and just wanted to have some fun on the side.
I met a psycho who wanted to whisk me off on the first date and get married.
I met so many men who spent so much time online interacting with these sex babes that they took precious time away from their families, and relationships. One man told me he wanted to stop, but he couldn't and in the end, he lost the one woman that completed him. It's a shame really that men have to have these types of women to get turned on and not the one that loves them and would be by their side for the rest of their life. All women want to be sexy for the man they love, so maybe they should have paid more attention to them and they would have known that. Truth be, men have always liked this style of women and will continue to ruin their lives, their family lives, and any chance at a beautiful relationship, for just a few seconds of lust, just sad!
This subject hits so close to home and while taking notes from one broken man that I had met, he couldn't hold back his tears as he told me about the love of his life, and how one day she finally found out what he was up to and saw his name and his dirty talk plastered online all over the websites of these sex girls and then his world came crashing down, and she left with the kids. They moved in with her family, and weeks later, she filed for divorce. I wanted to feel sorry for him, he really seemed to be a nice man deep down, but I didn't, I felt sorry for her and how it must have made her feel that she wasn't sexy enough to keep him from playing around with these girls and the heartache when she had to let go of the family life she had loved so much and in a split second it was gone along with her respect for the man she had loved with her everything.
Why do men have to browse, like, love, and interact with these kinds of women and open themselves up to more women like this who are monitoring them and swaying them to their sites, dragging them a little farther into the dark hole, and putting their names out there online for everyone in the world to see is beyond me, it's disgusting, degrading, and a complete turn-off for any decent woman who will eventually let him go if he doesn't change to save respect for herself and her family.
What these men don't understand is their profiles that are linked have personal information about them and how easy it is for these pedophiles to find information about their loved ones as well, and they have just made it easier for them to find their prey. The dark web is closer than you think, linked within these women and their sites. The men who are controlling them, are monitoring what you are doing, so for just minutes of lusting after these women, you have just destroyed your life, reputation as a family man, and the lives of your loved ones, and maybe even brought them into that darkness with you, is it still worth it?
My advice to you men, who need this garbage to feel good, is don't get into a real relationship. Please, don't drag a wonderful woman and maybe even your family down that hole with you, just keep your sex babes and save them the heartache and pain, they deserve better.
Then finally, I met him, I truly believe it may have been a combination of his look and type and that was why I chose him to study. He had this toughness, macho, and roughness on the outside, yet he had a gentleness about him.
Trying to figure him out took time and energy, sometimes leaving me frustrated with him.
He truly wasn't my type and yet he had a lot of women that he was their type. Being his friend allowed me to learn things from him that I needed to know and I learned things about myself as well. He wasn't a player, just locked up so tight he would never share his everyday life with any of his women.
Of course, I'm just a writer, and I can write and rewrite the chapters to my liking. Writing this novel benefited me and gave me a real eye-opener to what our world has become and for once in my life, I had doubts that the man of my dreams was still out there somewhere and if true love between two people really existed anymore, or has it been replaced by lust and multiple partners with no strings attached, no feelings for each other needed.
Finally, I had enough for my book and it was time to walk away from him and the bubble, he had built around himself. He was quite happy being alone and living the life he had grown accustomed to. He had such a big heart and I had so wanted him to let go with one of them and maybe get his happily ever after and yet I just didn't see that in his future.
My fingers stopped typing for my novel was now finished, moving to the dating app, I got into settings and was ready to delete my profile, but my mind controlled my fingers, just one more time I told myself as I selected how far away and their build and hit the search button. One by one I hit the x on the profiles and hit next and next and then I stopped, something about that man, intrigued me, reading his profile and he was very clear on the type of woman he was searching for, I had to laugh as I read, she has to know how to cook and I have to be attracted to her, " Just Saying". I couldn't help myself, I hit the like button. My mind was already weaving my next novel, and yet, my heart was hoping it wasn't just chapters of someone else's life. Had I not after all of this given up on my own happily ever after, one can only hope.
From The Author...
What I have learned from all of this is men can be so secretive with social media apps. If you are friends on Facebook or other apps, they go into their profile settings and restrict you from the friends they don't want you to see, and the girls they don't want you to see that they are following.
Most men have at least three women they are texting at the same time, promising them all the same relationship status. They will tell you they are falling in love with you but offer no commitment.
I'm sure we all have a little bit of player in us, and I'm sure I could be a fairly good one myself for in the last few years, I have learned some of the greatest moves from some of the best players out there.
My advice for women is to meet these men in public places for safety reasons and watch for red flags.
I know, it's almost not worth dating, it is so scary out there, and be ready for these players, I dated over 30 men for this novel, and let me tell you, more than half were well-played players, and quite a few were just men looking for sex and some fun times and nothing more. Among them are a few decent men looking for a real relationship, far and in between though.
Good luck and be safe!

Katherine had just arrived and parked towards the back side of the river, when her cell went off, looking down she read 5 minutes away. Her fingers were trembling as she texted him back, I'm here she typed and told him where she had parked and the color and model of her car. She was definitely getting a little nervous and yet she was excited to finally meet this guy, she had wanted to for months. She watched the trucks as they came and went, looking for the white one that he had told her he drove. A few minutes later she watched a white truck back in and park a lot farther from her on the other side of the parking lot. Surely, not him she said aloud, and yet somehow she knew it was.
She watched from inside her car and paid close attention to him as he got out and shut the door. He was walking towards her direction, trying to calm her heart from pounding as she got out of the car and started heading in his direction to meet him halfway.
They were both staring at each other as they continued to walk through the parking lot.
Wow, Mitch thought to himself as he got close enough to see her, she was sexy as hell in a little white summer dress and strappy heels. He was not expecting this and he tried his best to smile and not be so nervous, he knew she was cute from her pictures but damn, she was more than cute.
Katherine, smiled as she watched his smile grow bigger as they got closer. Hmm, she caught herself saying to herself, as he walked with such confidence and with that lop-sided smile, wow!
They both stopped and stared at each other for the longest time without saying a word.
Mitch coughed and they both started laughing. You hungry he asked her? I'm starving, she answered and smiled as he held his hand out to her and they headed towards the restaurant door.
Once seated outside on the patio area, they both ordered drinks first. Katherine couldn't stop herself she had been staring at him the entire time, and he was smiling and staring as well. Do you like what you see he asked her? I do, she answered with a sexy smile.
Do you, she asked him? I do indeed, he answered with his own sexy smile.
As the waiter came for their dinner orders they both began to relax and make small talk. Once, they had eaten and were ready to go Mitch asked her, what now? Kathern smiled, a walk around the River parks would be nice if you want she said, for she wasn't ready for the the date to end.
Sounds perfect he answered as he took cash out of his wallet to pay the tab, then pulling out the chair for Katherine, he grabbed for her hand.
This way is beautiful, and he led her towards the outside gate and backside of the river.
As they walked and talked about themselves, Katherine hoped he couldn't hear how hard she was breathing, she felt like she couldn't catch her breath being so close to this man. She was so attracted to him and could tell he felt the same way.
The wind was blowing and Katherine kept having to swipe her hair out of her eyes, Mitch had noticed and stopped them from walking and removed his hands from hers. Gently grabbing small strands of her hair that were blowing in her eyes, as to put them back into place, only his hands betrayed him, his fingers raked through her hair, and then his hands drew her face closer, he wanted to kiss her, she was staring into his eyes, he yearned for her, he couldn't stop himself.
Katherine felt his fingers as he was running them through her hair, it was like electricity going off and on, emotions that had been bottled up for so long, exploding for a man she didn't even know.
Then the kiss came and not a sweet little one, it was sensual, sexual, tongue on tongue, taking her to heights she hadn't been, losing all control, wanting more of him, she moved her hands around his shoulders, and his hands reached down circling her small waist, drawing her body closer to him, the kissing got deeper, they were oblivious to anyone but themselves.
Katherine knew she should stop it, knowing first dates should have never crossed this line. And yet, rules didn't seem to matter, she wanted to break them all for this man...
